Here in the UK, the GCSE (the exam completed at the age of 16) results have been released today.
My daughter has been waiting for this day with a mixture of excitement and blind terror since completing her exams at the beginning of the summer.
She needed a certain set of results to be allowed into the 6th form of her choice, so there was a certain amount of pressure on.
I took her in to her school at 9:30 this morning (it was supposed to be 10:00, but there was no way she was waiting that long). We were the first in and made our way through the gauntlet of teachers to the table with the envelopes.
I could see my little girl literally tremble as she took out the results.
As she read through the sheet, tears welled up and I started to fret.
As it happened, she had got more than what she needed to allow her to progress to the next level of her education. However she was upset at ‘only’ getting A grades and no A*.
And here is the point of this post.
I was there to give her a hug and point out to her:
a. how well she had done
b. that she had got what she needed
c. how her dad could only have dreamed at getting such great results!
(I think it was c. that finally got her smiling)
If I had a J-O-B, I would have missed out on the event.
I would have missed out on being able to take her to get the results in the first place
I would have missed out on the very real emotion of the event
…and most importantly I would have missed out on being able to put an arm round her and tell her how fantastic she is – with or without exam results!
You might think to yourself, ‘why bother going through the hassle of building a business.’
You might have the most secure job in the history of the job market (or at least think you have).
But it is days like today that makes me so happy that I am my own boss.
What are your reasons for building your business?
Find them, and building the business becomes a no brainer 🙂
