They say you should never talk about religion or politics, but bugger it I feel mischievous today 🙂
Here in the UK, we are just about to go to the polls to decide who should run our green and pleasant land.
As my son turned 18 at the end of last year, this will be the first election he has experienced as a voter. Even my daughter has got into the whole thing, despite the fact she is not yet old enough to vote.
This has led to one or two discussions about the pros and cons of the various parties.
I have to say this has really pleased me, even if their politically leanings seem to be slightly at variance to mine.
(I have thought about throwing them out, but my wife says this might be a bit harsh)
In reality I really I don’t mind this difference because it is based on evaluation of what the different parties are saying.
The important thing is that my son will be exercising his right as a UK resident to vote. A right that some people in the past have died for to ensure we have the privilege.
It therefore really annoys me when I hear people take this vote for granted and say they are not going to vote.
When I hear ‘Why should I vote they are all the same’ – I hear ‘I couldn’t be arsed to listen to what they are going to do so I don’t know how they differ’.
When I hear ‘Why should I vote they are all as bad as one another’ – I hear ‘I can’t be bothered to miss my favourite soap to go to the polling booth to vote’
Of course there are some bad apples, but if we don’t call them to account, who will?
I am proud that I live in a free society that has the power to vote in or vote out the people who run the country.
I am not proud that some people have got so comfortable that they take the hard fought right to vote for granted and therefore don’t bother.
This is something that is also very easy to do with our online marketing adventures.
It is very easy to take for granted just how much freedom we have to make money online.
However it can be this very freedom that can make us take the internet for granted and therefore don’t make the most of it.
My challenge to you, is to ask you if you are taking your right to make money online for granted?
