Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

I don’t know what had happened to my Autoresponder, but when I carried out a cull of duplicate or inactive addresses yesterday, it had a strange effect.

It seems that a number of subscribers had not been receiving mails from me, however the actions to tidy up my list seemed to ‘reboot’ things.

The upshot was that a number of subscribers got a mail from me for the first time in a long time (perhaps ever!).

Consequently I had a whole bunch of people unsubscribe and even one complaint as some people in the intervening time had obviously forgotten signing up for one of my offers.

Of course this is not ideal and you wouldn’t want it happening everyday.

exitHOWEVER, I do believe ‘unsubscribes‘ are actually vital to your business.

See it as a self-cleansing system, that ensures your business is as lean as it can be.

As a marketer I’m sure you only want to be spending your time with people who are interested in what you have to say.

If not you can waste a lot of your time and effort trying to change their mind.

And frankly life is too short!

Add to this the very practical fact that autoresponders tend to base their fees on the number of your list…

…the more subscribers, the greater the fee they charge you.

Therefore for both these reasons you really do only want just those people who WANT to be a member of your gang.

Don’t worry about the people who don’t relate to you and unsubscribe.

Don’t take it personally.

As they say, you can’t please all the people all the time…

…so focus on pleasing those people who want to be with you.

I always look suspiciously at those marketers who try to make unsubscribing as hard as possible.

You know the ones that put pages of line breaks so you have to scroll down an email forever to get to the ‘Unsubscribe’ option.

Ironically this will make me want to unsubscribe quicker than anything as it makes me question their ethics if they are using ‘tricks’ to keep subscribers.

The best way to keep people as subscribers is simply by making them WANT to stay.

Provide them with mails that are entertaining/interesting/useful/humorous or a combination of all these things.

Offer them solutions to their problems, and not just the products and services with the greatest affiliate payments.

Even after this some people are just not going to relate to you, and that is fine, let them go with your best wishes and focus on the guys and gals who do ‘get you’

Of course if you are struggling to come up with emails of your own, you might want to consider my AR Mail Genie membership and allow me to provide mails for you to send to your subscribers.

Alternatively if you just want to dip your toe in the water, you could try my FREE Autoresponder Bonanza email collection.

I would always suggest that you tweak the mails to bring a bit of your own personality to the party, but even if you don’t fancy doing that they will build your relationship with your list whilst offering products or services that can help.
